EMDR CONSULTATION AND INTENSIVES
Consultation is great for continued support, case consultation, practicing phases, and growing your skills. You can also gain hours towards your EMDR Certification.
Toni Culcasi, LPC
I graduated from Oakland University in 2017 with my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. In 2019, I completed my S.A.F.E. EMDR basic training (Somatic and Attachment Focused EMDR) through the Personal Transformation Institute (PTI). I then went on to go through PTI’s 10 month certification program and became an EMDRIA certified therapist as well as PTI’s consultant program to become an EMDRIA certified consultant. In my work, I focus on trauma as well as chronic pain/psychosomatic symptoms associated with trauma. I believe that therapy can be a great way to journey side-by-side with someone to encourage personal growth. It takes clients courage to invite someone to learn about their goals and barriers; it is a privilege for me to be there as a support. I have been able to gain experience working with PTSD, depression, anxiety, dissociation, ODD, bipolar I and II, OCD, chronic pain, and self-esteem building.
Piecing it together
Oftentimes, when we have something traumatic happen in our lives we do not fully experience it because our bodies are using all of their energy to endure the trauma. Afterwards, we can find ourselves having dreams, elevated emotional responses, or repetitive negative thoughts. EMDR can help to work through this feeling of being stuck in those responses and help move you towards a lower feeling of disturbance. Psychosomatic feelings focus on our bodies’ responses - just like when we get embarrassed and our cheeks turn red or when we get scared and our bodies tense up! Sometimes we may feel calm mentally but our physical selves still react. EMDR can also help with some physical responses. Our goal is to gain awareness of ourselves so that our responses become choices rather than automatic reactions. EMDR therapy is a brave way to turn towards our trauma and allow our bodies to experience what they needed to at that time.
